Further information
Discover the Herculaneum Archaeological Park during a 2-hour guided group tour of one of the most fascinating and remarkably preserved Roman cities in the world. The experience is conducted in English by a licensed tour guide and includes admission to the archaeological site.
Herculaneum was buried during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The volcanic materials that covered the city helped preserve not only mosaics and frescoes, but also upper floors of buildings, charred wooden elements, furnishings and objects used in everyday Roman life.
During the tour, the guide will lead the group through ancient streets, private houses, shops, public buildings and thermal complexes. The explanations will help participants understand the organisation of the city, the daily lives of its inhabitants and the events that led to its burial and exceptional preservation.
The itinerary may include elegantly decorated houses, public baths, workshops, warehouses and some of the archaeological park’s most representative buildings, depending on which areas are open and accessible on the day of the visit.
The guide will explain the meaning of important frescoes and mosaics while highlighting Roman construction techniques, customs and details that can easily be missed when visiting independently.
The guided tour lasts approximately 2 hours. Headsets are provided for groups of more than 15 participants, allowing everyone to hear the guide clearly. After the tour, visitors may remain inside the archaeological park and continue exploring independently until closing time.
During the winter season, the activity requires a minimum of 4 participants. If the minimum number is not reached, an alternative activity will be offered or a full refund will be issued.
